Charles "Charlie" Scharlow

Charles “Big Chuck” Eric Scharlow, 60, passed away suddenly at home in Lakemoor, Illinois on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. 

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 6, 1956 to the late Allen and Lorraine (nee Hintz) Scharlow. He attended Grant Community High School in Fox Lake, Illinois and the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. He was a hard worker and dedicated employee all throughout his life.  

Surrounded by the Chain O’ Lakes, Charlie enjoyed spending time on the water fishing and cruising around in his Checkmate boat. He participated in the Fox Lake, Illinois annual Fireman’s Festival Water Fights and was an avid lover of all things Oldsmobile. He enjoyed listening to good tunes (as he liked to call it), grilling with his sons and rooting against the “boo boo (Chicago) Bears” football team. He is described by all who knew and loved him as a caring father who always put his children first. Charlie was an attentive and devoted husband to his wife Susan Schafer, diligently attending to her medical issues when he unexpectedly passed. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Eric Scharlow of Harvard, Illinois, Andy Scharlow and his longtime girlfriend, Joyce Nemenyi, of Harvard, Illinois and Missy Scharlow and her fiancé, Danny Mecler, of Carol Stream, Illinois; and his sister, Nancy (Doug) Larson of Maryland. He was preceded in death by his brother, Erich Scharlow, on May 31, 2017. 

A memorial visitation for family and friends will take place on June 24, 2017, from 4 p.m. until the celebration of Charlie's life at 5 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.  It will be a time to remember and celebrate his life now that he is busy making rooster tail waves in his boat on the other side.
