Dorothy M. (Podhola) Peterson

Dorothy M. Peterson (nee Podhola), 94, of Round Lake, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at the McHenry Villa, McHenry.

Born April 15, 1922, in Boyd, WI, to the late Ervin and Gladys (nee Hardy) Podhola, Dorothy married the late Edwin Peterson on September 27, 1941, in Bessemer, MI.

Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper in the construction industry for Seekatz Builders, Chain `O Lakes Floor Covering, E. Peterson Builders, and Woodland Construction.  She also started her own sewing business, Peterson’s Sewing Center, worked at Great America, and retired from Crown Color, where she had worked for her son-in-law, Nelson.  In retirement she babysat for her great-granddaughter, Camille.  Dorothy was very proud of her Bohemian heritage, was an expert with sewing, loved Bingo, Pinochle, square dancing, sensible gambling, and had served on the Girl Scouts of America Council.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy (Chuck) Tronvig of Hurley, WI and Auburndale, FL and Sandie (Nelson) Flackus Jr. of McHenry; grandchildren, Deb Tronvig, Tamie (Bob) Walsh, Nelson III (Jen), and Shayne (Sandi) Flackus; great-grandchildren, Kelton, Haylee, and Kate Walsh and Allyson, Mackenzie, Camille, and Nelson IV Flackus; sisters, Betty (the late Nick) Turney, Pat (William) Morgando, and Janet (Ron) Bruno; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by twin brothers, Bud (the late Ruth) and Bob (the late Mary and Lee) Podhola.

The visitation will be Friday, March 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 10 a.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. The Reverend Lisle Kauffman will be the officiant. Entombment will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, Libertyville.
