Dorothy M. (Diedrich) Szymanski

Dorothy M. Szymanski (nee Diedrich), 98, formerly of Spring Grove, peacefully passed away Friday, October 16, 2015, at Alexian Village of Elk Grove Village.

She was born August 29, 1917, in Chicago, to John and Katherine (nee Kiel) Diedrich, and was united in marriage to Bruno P. Szymanski on September 4, 1937, in Chicago.

Dorothy was active member of her community, working at Schultz Brothers in Fox Lake and serving as a Republican Election Judge in both Cook County and Antioch Township.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Church of Spring Grove and a member and former officer of the Lotus Woods Homeowners’ Association. She enjoyed vacationing with her family all over the continental United States and Canada, gardening, and reading.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Jackie) Szymanski of South Barrington, IL and Norman (Lucille) Szymanski of Machesney Park, IL; grandchildren, Norman Jr., John, Lisa (Harold) Doyle, Tina, Katie (William) Michellini, Dorothy, and Devin (Bradley) Ball; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno, in 2002; and sister, Germaine Sluder.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, from 9:00- 11:00 a.m. at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake, followed by a procession to St. Peter’s Church of Spring Grove, 2118 Main St., Spring Grove, for a 11:30 a.m. Mass. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum, Justice, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dorothy’s name to Alexian Village, 975 Martha Street, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
