Amelie Marie (Meinen) Hagen

Amelie Marie Hagen, 86, of Lindenhurst, IL passed away on the morning of September 30, 2017 with her daughter Susan by her side.

Born January 25, 1931 in Chicago she was a first generation American of German parents, Hans and Johanna Meinen.  She attended school in Palatine, IL, and after marrying Emerson Sander they moved to Spring Grove where they raised their 5 children.

Amelie was a charter member of All Saints Lutheran Church.  In 1971 she married Lawrence Hagen and upon his retirement they built their dream home in Blairsville, GA where they lived for 20 years.  They enjoyed traveling and their Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church friends.  In 2010 they moved to Kerrville, Texas where they participated in activities at the Riverside Nature Center of which they were charter life members.

In 2014 Amelie and Larry moved to Victory Lakes in time to become great-grandparents.  After Larry’s passing Amelie became more involved in the Victory Lakes community and made fast friends. 

Amelie is survived by her children, Susan Sander, Linda (Bob) Zoiss, David (Debbie Sander), Kathryn (Mike) McCoy; 6 grandchildren (Seth Brown, Sarah Yoder, Michael Galster, Alyssa Maxheimer, Christopher and Kaitlyn Sander; 3 great-grandchildren (Aiden and Lucas Maxheimer, and Nora Yoder).

Amelie was preceded in death by her parents and son, Jimmy Sander. 

A Gathering of Celebration will be held at Victory Lakes (Great Room) in Lindenhurst on Sunday October 15 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Riverside Nature Center (Kerrville, TX) or the charity of one’s choice.
