Raymond “Ray” W. Writz, 92, of Fox Lake, IL, formerly of The Ozarks, MO, died Friday, August, 16, 2019, at The Cottages of Fox Lake.
He was born July 26, 1927, in Poniatowski, WI, to the late Stanley and Eleanor (nee Myszka) Writz.
Ray left high school and the family dairy farm at age 17 to join the Marines and serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he had a long, successful career as a union carpenter working on commercial projects from bridges, roads, and nuclear power plants. In his free time, Ray enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, playing cards, gambling, and casinos.
Ray will be deeply missed by his children, Raymond John (Rosanna) Writz, Denise Diane (John) Gerger, Alan James Writz, Randall Charles Writz, and Cheryl Lynn (Richard) Paull; his grandchildren, Charles Emmitt (Carrie) Dunlap III, Joshua Raymond (Amanda) Writz, Adam Jay (Rebecca) Writz; Rachel Megan Paull and Stephanie Theresa Paull; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Writz Dunlap, Sierra Kay Dunlap, William Isaac Writz, Ellery Mae Writz, Jack Thomas Writz, Ezekiel Craig Writz, and Juniper Ann Writz; siblings, Dan (Mary) Writz and Bernice Passehl; and stepchildren, Jennifer (Ray) Wolf, Janice (David) Littlejohn, and Jill (Paul) Maher.
He was preceded in death by Janet (nee Stasinowsky) Writz; former wife, Agnes (nee Rausch) Writz; and nine siblings.
Memorial visitation Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Parish, 125074 County Rd. U (formerly R444 U 54426 Hwy. County M), Edgar, WI 54426. A luncheon will follow the Mass. Interment will be private.
