David Paul Sterbenz, 70, a lifelong resident of Ingleside, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. He was born April 22, 1955, in Lake Bluff, to the late Paul and Carol Juul Sterbenz.
David was a 1973 graduate of Grant Community High School, who went on to attend Southern Illinois University. He retired from Illinois Bell after 38 years as a lineman.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, guitarist, and music lover who enjoyed camping, traveling NASCAR, and watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks. David was known for his many jokes, Dave-isms, and frequenting local establishments for coffee with his friends. Above all, he loved his family and spoiling his granddaughters.
He was the loving husband of 43 years to Colleen (nee Payne); loving father of Cale (Katie) Sterbenz; loving bapa of Caroline and Rosalie Sterbenz; brother of Vicky (Mark) Thoene; loving brother-in-law of Deborah (Al) King, Susan Baird, Janice Payne, Charles Payne, and Andrea (David) Mason; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation Sunday, July 20, 2-6 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Visitation resumes Monday, July 21, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Avon Centre Cemetery, Grayslake.
