Donald “Don” Lake, 92, of Fox Lake, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at home. He was born January 27, 1930, in Chicago, to the late Edward and Agnes (nee Sweeney) Lake.
Don served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and his Master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He worked for American Can Company, where he enjoyed his career as a microbiologist for more than 25 years. In his spare time, Don was an avid golfer and photographer.
Survivors include his children, Joni (Tom) Sokic, Michael (Karen) Lake, Rick Lake, and Mike Rybowicz; grandchildren, Jasmine and Tashi; great-grandchildren, Valkyrie and Zephyr; former wife, Esther Lake; nieces and nephew, Marianne Valle, Tom (Geri) Gill, and Patty (Brad) Hanewall.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Christine “Chris” Lake (nee Rybowicz) on May 11, 2020; sisters, Helen Gill and Dorothy Lake; and nephew, Tim Gill.
Visitation Wednesday, July 6, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Justice.
