In Loving Memory of Edward James Lahey

8/17/1935 - 9/12/2023

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved father, Edward James Lahey, who departed from this world on September 12, 2023. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a cherished friend to many. His beloved wife of 65 years, Lenore Carol Lahey, will forever hold him in her heart.

His legacy lives on through his seven children, who were the center of his world; Kathryn Lahey of Buffalo Grove, IL; Edward (Linda) Lahey of Crystal Lake, IL; Maureen Grabo of Lakemoor, IL; Maribeth Lahey (Mike), Palatine, IL; Patricia (Gregg) Petersen of Forest Grove, OR; Robert (Dianne) Lahey of Waunakee, WI; Anne (Wes) Nielson of Lake Stevens, WA.  Ed is also survived by 12 grandchildren; AshleyRose, Ian, Kevin, Garrett, Brian, Jake, Reagan, Davis, Savanna, Sean, Ryan, and Luke, and 2 great grandchildren, Allan and Aesha.  They all loved their grandpa and will cherish the memories they shared.

Ed was born on August 17, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Edward and Martha (nee Todd) Lahey. He grew up with a strong sense of family values and a deep love for those around him. Throughout his life he exemplified the qualities of compassion, selflessness, and unwavering support.

As a father, Ed was a pillar of strength and guidance. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and ensured that his children received the best education and opportunities to follow their dreams. His wisdom, kindness, and sense of humor made him a role model and a source of inspiration for many.

Ed had a passion for life that was infectious. He enjoyed scouting, boating, volunteering at church and his children’s schools and activities.  His enthusiasm for the activities often led to unforgettable family moments. Whether it was a bike ride, camping in the backyard or a camping trip, or tobogganing down the hill in the backyard, he cherished every moment spent with his children and their friends.

He was a devout volunteer even into his retirement; Peoria Diamond Club in AZ for 22 years, at the Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister for 40 years, Lector for 45 years and mass coordinator for 25 years.  He started with the Boy Scouts of America in Ingleside, IL for Troop 179 in 1972, he continued scouting in Glendale AZ at the Boy Scout Thunderbird District serving as District Commissioner.  Due to Ed’s exemplary service of 46 years to scouting he was honored the Chartered Organization Representative Key, also District Award of Merit, The St. George Emblem, and the Silver Beaver Award.   Ed had helped over 151 scouts earn their Eagle Scout in IL and AZ.

The loss of Ed leaves a void in our lives that can never be filled, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, his wisdom, and the countless lessons he imparted to all around him.

A Mass celebrating Ed's life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2023, at Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Bede Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside.
