Elizabeth “Betty” Veselka (nee Husar), 92, of Twin Lakes, WI, formerly of Ingleside, IL, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019, at Geneva Lake Manor, Lake Geneva, WI. She was born February 22, 1927, to the late John and Katherine (nee Jurco) Husar.
A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, Betty always had a smile on her face and was fun to be around. She had a wonderful attitude and a lust for life. There wasn’t a Summer day that was hot enough for Betty! Hence the reason she was so happy when she finally talked her Husband Pep (as he was known to most) to move from Ingleside to Clearwater, FL where their only child, Cathy Melinda, was born. She enjoyed being close to the ocean and loved to deep-sea fish with friends and, of course, loved the Florida heat! After the birth of their daughter, Betty and Pep returned to Ingleside to be closer to family and friends. Above all, she was a wonderful mother and nana who enjoyed being with her family.
Betty earned her GED at age 48 and was so proud to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at age 50. She worked for 15 years as an LPN at McHenry/Centegra Hospital in cardiac surveillance. Betty continued working as a nurse until she was almost 80 years old for Dr. William Dam in Ingleside. Besides her family, her nursing career was the highlight of her life. In the last 10 years after her retirement she spent her time golfing with her Gal Pals, gardening, crocheting, and visiting casinos with her senior groups.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy (Dean) Schastick of Twin Lakes; grandchildren, Brittany (Jonathan) Winter, Eric (Sara) Floyd, Cadey Jo (fiancé Randy Stanek) Floyd, and Dominick Schatsick; great-grandchildren, Ava and Colt Winter; nieces, Kitty Tabers and Linda (John) Tabers-Kwak; nephews Randy (Roxane) Husar and Rodney Husar; and so many friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Veselka; and eleven siblings.
Memorial visitation 5-8 p.m., Friday, January 10, with a celebration of life service at 7:30 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty’s name may be made to Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Pkwy. Ste. 410, Rockville, MD 20852.
