Esther N. Schuerr (nee Janssen), 104, of Johnsburg, formerly of Fox Lake, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at JourneyCare, Barrington.  She was born at home February 3, 1921, in Round Lake, to the late Henry and Emma (nee Krepel) Janssen.

Esther was a very loving mother and known as “mom” and “grandma” to many kids she took in over the years.  She was known for her open heart and was generous to all.

She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 703, Fox Lake, the former Fox Lake Moose Lodge, and the Fox Lake Lions Club. 

Survivors include her children, John (Debra) Schuerr of Conover, WI, James (Jill) Schuerr of Spring Grove, Nancy Schuerr of Colorado City, CO, Judith (Sam) DeRosa of Johnsburg, and Michael (Vicki) Schuerr of Conover, WI; grandsons, Kory, Rob (Lisa), Andy (Nikki), Gabe, and Michael Schuerr, and Robert (Brie) and Lance (Mel) DeRosa; granddaughters, Kelly Hoodenpyle, Kim Wagner, Suzi (Ed) Collins, Holly (Brandon) McCormick, Ashley Mohr; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Schuerr in 1990; son, Robert “Bobby” in 1974; siblings, Carl (Alice) Janssen, William Janssen, and Everett (Dorothy) Janssen.

Visitation Wednesday, March 26, from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.  Burial will be private at Grant Cemetery, Ingleside.
