James “Jimbo” Gertz, 49, of Fox Lake, passed away at home Thursday, July 29, 2021. He was born February 11, 1972, in Waukegan, to Carolyn (nee Gilliam) and James Gertz.
Jimbo worked for Lonestar Renovations and renovated hotels all over the United States. He was an avid sports fan—especially the Tennessee Titans, Chicago Cubs, LA Lakers, and NASCAR.
Survivors include his children, Joey (fiancée Halee Johnson) Gertz, Hailey Gertz, and Emilie Gertz; granddaughter, JoAnne Gertz; parents, Carolyn Gertz and James Gertz; brothers, Donald (Cissie) Gertz and Tommy (Lindsay) Gertz; nieces and nephew, Steffanie Baseley, and Landen and Camryn Gertz; aunt, Mary Willet; uncle, Robert Steven (Teresa) Gilliam; cousins, Tammy Miranda, Billy and Ryan Brannigan, Kelly Gilliam, Katie Miller, and Andrew Gilliam; great-aunt, Gwen (James) Seagraves; best friend, Rob Schumacher; dog, Angel; and many beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nellie R. and Virgil R. Gilliam; aunt and uncle, Kathy and Bill Brannigan; cousin, Michael Willet; mother of his children, JoAnne Micheletto; and best friend, Alan Schultz.
The Gertz family would like to share their heartfelt thanks for the excellent care and assistance given to Jimbo by Mary Willet and Cissie Gertz in his time of need.
A visitation, with a time of sharing memories and favorite stories of Jimbo, will be held Saturday, August 7, from 1-4 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.
