John Joseph Gloff, 80, of Ingleside, IL, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023. He was born June 29, 1943, in Chicago.
John was a vibrant presence, always lighting up the room with his infectious energy. Beyond his cherished family, two passions stood out: his beloved 1967 GTO—as treasured possession since 1989—and the art of conversation. John had an unparalleled gift for dialogue, always eager to engage and share. Honest to a fault, he was consistently genuine, yet always among the warmest souls in any gathering. He reveled in grand, family dinners and never missed an opportunity to be among the first to extend birthday wishes. John’s reservoir of wisdom, earned through years of experience, was always on offer. Whether guiding you through a lawnmower fix, or offering tips on enhancing a motorcycle engine, he generously shared his knowledge with all.
John attended Prescott Elementary for his primary education and later attended Lane Technical High School, earning his GED thereafter. He served in the Army as a Vietnam Veteran from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1967. In his professional life, John obtained his Airframe and Powerplant License and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Braniff Airways and Glenview Naval Air Base. In his free time, John was a member of the Northern Illinois Streeters Car Club and enjoyed working on antique cars and participating in car shows.
John is survived by his sons, William (Kimberly) Gloff and Michael Gloff; grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Gloff; brother, Joseph (Ellen) Gloff, and former spouse, Linda Akim-Gloff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eleanore (nee Kleinschmidt) Gloff; and former spouse, Dolores Gloff.
Visitation Friday, September 29, from 4-8 p.m., with a wake service at 7:30 p.m., Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.
