John Arthur Schar, 79, of Ingleside, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022, at White Oaks at McHenry. He was born February 13, 1943, in Libertyville, to the late Arthur and Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Skarbalis) Schar.
John grew up in unincorporated Prairie View. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, during which he served as a truck driver. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued truck driving until he became an Electrical Maintenance Engineer at Maine East High School, Park Ridge, from which he retired.
In his free time John enjoyed tinkering on cars, welding, racing quarter-mile drag, and traveling and camping in this RV. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and Mr. Papa.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Candy (nee Dvorak); children, Danielle (Lenny) Kratz; Steve (Stephanie) Schar; and Lisa (Joe) Knebl; grandchildren, Ally (Zach) Carlson, Brad and Colin Kratz; Steven and Scott Schar; and Ian and Landon Knebl; and great-granddaughter, Georgia Carlson.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brother, Ray Schar; and in-laws, Arthur and Florence Dvorak.
Memorial visitation Friday, October 21, from 4 p.m. until the time of Army honors at 7:30 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Private urn burial will be in Willow Lawn Memorial Park, Vernon Hills.
