John G. Schmoldt, 78, of Antioch, formerly of Fox Lake, died unexpectedly Friday, September 12, 2025, at Froedert Pleasant Prairie Hospital, Pleasant Prairie, WI. He was born September 19, 1946, in Chicago, to the late Walter and LaVilla (nee Chesky) Schmoldt.
John served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1968. He went on to work for Commonwealth Edison for 34 years, first as a cableman/splicer and retiring as a locater.
John’s early years were spent fishing with his dad and brother. When he started his own family, it gave him great joy teaching his son, Bryan, the ropes of fishing. When grandchildren came along, it was attending their sport activities that brought him happiness. Great-grandchildren were definitely his pride and joy. When he wasn’t focused on family, it was his yard that kept him busy, those weeds didn’t have a chance to grow in his lawn.
Retirement gave him more time to spend at Bob’s Lakeside Coffee Shop in town. He had many friends there that he enjoyed talking to and solving world problems while he scratched his lottery tickets.
Survivors include his wife, Rose (nee Alicea); daughter, Rebecca Klotter; grandchildren, Tristan (Emma) Schmoldt, Austin (Linda Nguyen) Klotter, Hunter Klotter, and Taylor Klotter; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Zeitler and Cashel Klotter.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Thomas Schmoldt, on December 30, 2016; and brother, Thomas W. Schmoldt.
The celebration of John’s life will be private. Private interment will be in Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, Fort Sheridan, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, appreciated.
