The fabulous Marty “Martha” Kvaas, passed away at her home on July 4, 2022.
Marty (Martha Belke) was born in Highland Park, IL on February 14, 1946, to parents Theodore and Virginia May Belke. Marty attended Lake Villa Grade School and began at Antioch High School, graduate of Grayslake High School. Marty owned her own business as well as holding various positions in her life which included her position held at Lake County Press of Waukegan, IL where she worked as a zip-code sorter for many years. Friends and co-workers would say her ability to recall any zip code was unmatched as well as her strong work ethic.
Marty met the love of her life, Edward "Doc" Kvaas, and got married on August 31, 1975. They have spent the last forty-eight wonderful years together sharing a ton of laughter, trips up north, and unprecedented devotion to each other. She never failed to mention how handsome and kind her Doc was, how blessed she was to have him, and how they both loved each other deeply. Doc’s devotion and affection to Marty—as he would say “My Marty”—is something we can all hope to experience in our own lives.
Marty loved her siblings (Nancy, Oma, and Quentin) and many memories were shared amongst her siblings over the years as well as endless hysterical laughter, trips, holidays, numerous calls a day, shopping excursions, dancing, and just having an enjoyable time.
Marty was a flower child with a love for music from Kenny Rogers, The Hollies, Tina Turner, and Simon and Garfunkel and had epic stories of meeting many music greats of the past. An avid reader, Stephen King being one of her favorite authors. To say she was a dog lover was an understatement, she was devoted to each of her fur babies including Singha, the Infamous Tiny, Teester, Woolley and Sherman.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Marty will always speak of her outrageous sense of humor, her amazing laugh, her generosity, warm heart, and kindness. She could take mundane tasks and turn them into unforgettable stories. We all have a “Marty” story and with some of us having too many to count. Marty was one of a kind, with a flair for style, big glasses, and an infectious smile that will live on within all of us.
And, in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make. – Paul McCartney
