Mary Hedge (nee Pappas), 97, of Woodstock, formerly a longtime resident of Spring Grove, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Valley Hi Nursing Home. She was born January 20, 1924, in Chicago, to the late Nicholas and Chrysothemis (nee Verriopoulos) Pappas.
As a grandma, Mary earned her BSN from Northern Illinois University, and had a long and successful career as a Registered Nurse. She was also very active at Mount Hope United Methodist Church, in Pistakee Highlands, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed swimming, music, reading, geological field trips, and taking care of her family.
Survivors include her children, Margaret (the late Del) Anderson of Gassville, AR and Nicholas (Mary L.) Hedge of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Lisa (Matt) Murphy of Genoa City, WI, Tayte Butler of Naperville, and Megan (Christopher) Sebree of Mountain Home; great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Chantelle), Brittany (Jon), Ashley, Michelle, Marley, Christiana, Christian, and Sydelle; and great-great grandchildren Joshua, Lyanna, Avery, Jackson, Matthew, Blake, and Scarlett Rose.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Sy Hedge and Earl Thomas; daughter, Cynthia (Christopher) Anderson; grandchildren, Jonathan Butler and Michelle Barker; and siblings, Constance Hargis, Chrysanthe Zenor, and Harry N. Pappas.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be announced for a future date.
