Nancy Koske Obituary

Nancy E. Koske (nee Tipperreiter), 72, a longtime resident of Fox Lake, peacefully passed away at home Wednesday, January 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 13, 1951, in Chicago, to the late John and Theresa Mae (nee Heffernan) Tipperreiter.

Nancy began life in the Ravenswood/Jefferson Park neighborhoods of Chicago.  Her family moved to Mundelein where Nancy attended Santa Maria del Popolo Catholic School and Carmel Catholic High School (class of 1969).  She earned a reputation of being a hard worker and enjoyed a long career as office manager at Sub Surface Construction in Grayslake and as the Marketing Manager at Paradise Park (now The Cottages) in Fox Lake.

A true Renaissance person, Nancy was a talented musician, civic leader, and—above all—a fantastic and loving wife, mother, and Nonie.

Nancy was the lead singer for several cover bands that specialized in rock and top- 40 music.  The bands included: Rolf West Review, Endeavor, and Nancy Kay and the Associates.  She was part of the first band to play on Blarney Island and bands that played many local venues, including the Lake County Fair. Later, she spent her Friday nights in the kitchen at Port of Blarney serving up the popular fish fry.

Nancy began her civic and political careers as a past president and 12-year board member of Fox Lake School District 114. She went on to be a Village of Fox Lake Trustee from 2007-2021.

Nancy’s proudest civic title was that of Mayor of the Village of Fox Lake; a position she served in from 2001-2005. Nancy was the first female Mayor of the Village, an accomplishment in itself. She was responsible for, or played pivotal roles in: moving the Village Hall to its current in-village location, the creation of the FoxComm 911 Dispatch Center, building a sally port at the Fox Lake Police Department, building a Skate Park at Veterans Memorial Park, the land annexation that brought Fox Lake to the Wisconsin state line, and the redevelopment and expansion of the Lakefront Park.

When she had free time, Nancy enjoyed “taking a dip” in the hot tub, volunteering for the Grant High School District 124 Gala, hosting senior boat tours on The Blarney Queen, and decorating her home.  She loved to travel and had been to London, Scotland, Italy, and Ireland, but it was Paris that won her heart. When sharing her love for Paris with others, Nancy liked to quote Gertrude Stein, “America is my country, but Paris is my home town.”

Nancy is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Robert Koske Jr.; her daughters, Krista (Ellen Skolar) Koske, Kathrine (David) Kotloski, and Kelly (Carla Riley) Koske; grandsons, James Koske-Skolar and Henry and Cooper Jon Kotloski; siblings, Edward (Kathy) Tipperreiter, Sally (William) Tortorello, and James (Deborah) Tipperreiter; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by brother, John Tipperreiter.
