Paul F. Stevens, 74, a longtime resident of Johnsburg, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. He was born November 13, 1946, in Chicago, to the late Martin “Mart/Marty” and Dorothy “Dee” (nee Ortegel) Stevens.
In his early years, Paul lived in Chicago and moved with his family to Skokie when he was 12. He was a 1965 graduate of St. George High School in Evanston, and went on to become a Navy veteran who served on P-3 Orion aircraft. A lover of anything outdoors, Paul enjoyed fishing (especially in Arkansas) and hunting (most recently geese). He was an excellent dancer and loved to country line and couples dance with the Kickin it with Carol group. Paul loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was known to be a jokester and teaser.
Survivors include his children, Melissa Steele of Charlotte, NC and Ryan (Amanda) Stevens of McHenry; grandchildren, Kallysta Steele and Sadie and Austin Stevens; and cousins, Barbara (Dennis) Cline and their daughter, Dakota, of Mountain Home, AR, and Jack (Angie) Ortegel of Mountain Home, AR; brothers, Mark (Wendy) and Glen (Rose) Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by grandson, Keeghan Drake McCormack; and nephew, Cole Michael Stevens.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held outdoors Friday, October 1, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., with Navy honors at 2 p.m. Chairs are limited; you’re welcome to bring a lawn chair. If there is inclement weather, the celebration will be moved indoors. Per the State of Illinois mask mandate of August 30, 2021, all people inside the funeral home are required to wear face masks.
