Robert V. Misiek, Sr., 88, of Fox Lake, at rest Wednesday, October 6, 2021.
Robert simply loved his family. Devoted husband of 46 years to the late Jane Ellen (nee Klein); committed father to Robert (Patricia) Misiek, Jr. of Antioch, Illinois; Mark (Lesley) Misiek of Lindenhurst, Illinois, and Matt (Christine) Misiek of Hebron, Illinois; loving grandfather to Hannah, Rachel, Robert Paul, Sydney, Will, Johnathan, and Lily Misiek; loving uncle to Kenneth Gardner, Tricia White (nee Gardner), Kevin Craver, the late Richard (Rae) Srch, Nancy (Rick) Srch-Javier, Linda (the late Howard) Liskey, Judy (Dan) Weber, the late Carol (James) Chochola, Debbie (Kevin) Kranich, Wayne Rosmis, and Denice (nee Rosmis) Czulno.
He was born August 2, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Walter and Martha (nee Olexa) Misiek. He was the cherished younger brother to all who preceded him in death: Anna (Henry) Srch, Theodore (Helen) Misiek, Mary (Bill) Jackson, Walter (Mary) Misiek and Virginia “Virgie” Rosmis. When Robert was young, the family moved from Chicago to a farm in Antioch, Illinois. Robert graduated from Antioch Community High School in 1951.
A few years later, Robert was called to serve in the United States Army. He served in the 101st Airborne until his honorable discharge in 1962. He took pride in his service and displayed it on his favorite cap. Through marriage, Robert was a great brother-in-law to the late Pat (Wendell) Gardner and the late Margaret “Peggy” (John) Craver. He loved having weekend breakfasts with John and any family that would attend.
From serving in the Army to serving Fox Lake, the place he and Jane settled after marriage. Robert was a State Farm insurance agent from 1963 to 1998, building many relationships and friendships with his clients and fellow agents. He also was a village trustee in Fox Lake for many years, involved in the planning for numerous community projects that are in use today. He also ran for the office of Mayor. Robert also coached Little League baseball for several years.
He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was a longtime golfer and member of the Greenwood Golf League and won a coveted “green jacket.”
Robert served God as well, being a faithful member of St. Bede Church in Ingleside, Illinois for generations. In addition to being a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a leader of readings and songs at Masses for over 30 years. He also volunteered at many St. Bede athletic events.
For the last three years, Robert was a very active part of the residents at the Cottages of Fox Lake. He loved bingo, showing movies, leading community sing-a-longs, and putting smiles on all faces. He was loved by each and every one of the current and former staff there.
