Sandra “Sass” Lynn Flackus (nee Peterson), 76, of McHenry, formerly of Round Lake, peacefully passed away April 17, 2025 at Northwestern McHenry Hospital surrounded by loving family.  She was born February 15, 1949, in Waukegan, to the late Edwin and Dorothy (nee Podhola) Peterson.

Sandie grew up in Round Lake and was a 1967 graduate of Round Lake High School—and was their first Panther mascot and longtime member of the reunion committee.  She went on to have a successful banking career, first at Grayslake National for 10 years and then 21 years at Chase in Libertyville.

She enjoyed camping—especially with her family, the Glen family, and her Jayco BBs camping club, of which she was a past president and longtime treasurer—and camping on the family property in Hurley, WI.

Sandie was formerly active at two churches in Round Lake, first at Community United Church of Christ where she was married, her sons were baptized, and she served as an elder and Sunday school teacher, and then at Calvary Presbyterian Church where she also served as an elder. 

Survivors include her husband and high school sweetheart, Nelson Flackus Jr., whom she married October 2, 1971, in Round Lake; sons, Nelson (Jen) Flackus III and their children Camille and Nelson IV and Shayne (Sandi) Flackus and their children, Allyson and McKenzie; sister, Judy (Chuck) Tronvig; nieces, Debra Tronvig, Tamie (Bob) Walsh, nephews, Zack Flackus and Frank Waters and niece Crystal Metcalfe; dear cousin of Jill (Thomas) Padgen; grand-nephew and nieces, Kelton (Mary Kathryn) Walsh, Haylee (Joe) Ferguson, and Kate Walsh; sister-in-law, Sandra Burwick; aunts, Betty Turney; lifelong best friend, Lynn D.; best friends since high school, Filis, Carol, Maryann, Jan Nancy, Georgia, Alice, Linda, Tom, and Debbie and Dale; best friends, Michelle, Shirlee, Cindy, Tina, and Lynne; and by many, many beloved friends, cousins, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Sandie was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Sherman Flackus(Cynthia Carlson); and nephew, Jeremiah Flackus.

A memorial visitation will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2107 W. Lincoln Rd., McHenry, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with services immediately following at 1:00 p.m.
