Sonja Maki (nee Lindstrom), 81, of McHenry, formerly a longtime resident of Fox Lake, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Alden Terrace, McHenry. She was born January 11, 1939, in Chicago.
Sonja graduated from College of Lake County with an accounting degree. She worked for many years at Baxter, prior to working for more than 20 years at Abbott, retiring as a Project Accountant.
Sonja was well known in the Fox Lake area where, with her late husband, she was active in the Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society and enjoyed dining out at local restaurants.
Survivors include her sisters, Joan (the late Edward) Bennett of McHenry and Sandra (the late Lyle) Swift of Antioch; and many nieces and nephews.
Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” on January 3, 2005; mother, Eleanor (nee Dugas); and niece, Mary Bennett Brown.
Graveside services will be private in Grant Cemetery, Ingleside.
