Susan Jane Rodriguez, 78, passed away at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, IL. She was born Susan Jane Irwin in Chicago, IL to Edward Lyle Irwin and Jane Irwin (Heimke).

After graduating from Northern Illinois University, Susan spent her early years working as a student migrant teacher, teaching English and Spanish to Mexican immigrants. Susan spent her career in education, working as a teacher and substitute teacher throughout the Northern Illinois area. 

She was a woman of deep intellectual interests and a tireless gardener who took great pride in her yard. Susan was a dedicated student of the Bible, with a specific, lifelong interest in biblical prophecy. She was known by those close to her as a "fountain of wisdom" who loved discussing the Bible, prophecy, and geo-politics with her daughter and friends.

Susan is survived by her husband, Carlos T. Rodriguez; her son, Mac E. Perry (Julie); her daughter, Jane M. Rodriguez-Boudreau (Jordan); and three grandchildren: Muriel J. Grothendick, Shirley M. Grothendick, and Joaquin N. Boudreau. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward C. Irwin.

Services

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church (41412 IL-83, Antioch, IL 60002). A luncheon will follow at the church.

Following the luncheon, a brief graveside service will take place at 1:00 PM at Millburn Cemetery, 18577 W. Millburn Rd, Old Mill Creek, IL 60083.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
