Thomas R. Newcomer

Thomas R. Newcomer of McHenry, formerly of Glenview, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 20, 2020, with his wife by his side.

Tom was born on August 24, 1950, in Chicago to the late Raymond and Sophie Newcomer.  Tom grew up in Chicago where he attended Taft High School. After high school, Tom attended Memphis State University where he played football for two years.  Later, he attended and graduated from Northern Illinois University. Although Tom majored in education, he chose to pursue a career in construction because of his love for the outdoors.  He loved his work and soon owned his own concrete construction company. Tom happily dedicated his life to hard work for many years and finally retired in 2016.  

In 2016, Tom and his wife, Linda, moved to McHenry where Tom spent the last four years transforming their new house into a beautiful home. He also loved fishing and spent many happy hours with a fishing pole in one hand and a cherished grandchild in the other!  Tom enjoyed the peaceful life of retirement and always kept busy doing the things that made him happy.  

Tom was a hard-working, strong man with a big heart.  He was a man who we all could count and depend on. In his own quiet way Tom looked after everyone - always and tirelessly trying to figure out what was best for all.  He was a patient, kind, and loving man who had a heart full of love for his family. Tom will be dearly missed by all.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughters, Courtney Newcomer, Stacey Springs, and Kelly Newcomer; his stepsons, Kevin Kreft and Dustin (Kathy) Kreft; and stepdaughter, Cami (Phil) Rodriguez.  Tom was the cherished Grandpa of Braylon Springs, Ryan Kreft, Lawson Springs, Noelle Rodriguez, and Dennis Rodriguez.

To honor Tom, the family will be having a Celebration of Life at Maravela's Banquet Hall, 4 Washington St., Ingleside, on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.. Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., with hors d'oeuvres to follow.
