Virginia "Gini" Theresa (nee Mohr) Smolinski

Virginia “Gini” Theresa Smolinski, 94, of Round Lake, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021, at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville.  She was born September 18, 1926, in Chicago, to the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (nee Heil) Mohr.

Virginia was an active volunteer with Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Bede Church, the Round Lake Police Records Department and Round Lake Library, as well as being a member of the St. Bede Women’s Club. 

An avid Chicago Cubs fan, she enjoyed attending Cubs games with her son, Mark, and traveling with him to Cubs games in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and San Diego.  She also enjoyed playing Pinochle with her sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Smolinski of Round Lake and Keith (Kelly) Smolinski of Vernon Hills; granddaughters, Nicole Smolinski of Gainesville, FL and Erica Smolinski of Athens, GA; sister, Jacquelyn Mohr of Round Lake Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert in 1975; and siblings, Patricia (the late Peter) Zubinski, Geraldine Mohr, and Kenneth Mohr.

A Mass celebrating Virginia’s life will be said at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, at Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Bede Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside, IL 60041.  Burial of Virginia’s urn will immediately follow in St. Bede Cemetery, Ingleside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Virginia’s name may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 80 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL, 60067.
