Walter A. Korpan, 40, of McHenry, unexpectedly passed away at home Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was born May 26, 1982, in Chicago, to Walter J. and Ann (nee Lull) Korpan.
Walter grew up in McHenry and was active in Scouting, youth soccer, and was on a bowling league in Johnsburg. He graduated McHenry East High School in 2000, where he was a member of the soccer team, and went on to attend McHenry County College. Walter worked at his family’s business, Korpan’s Landing, in Fox Lake and assisted with Korpan’s Christmas Parade. He went on to work at Gavin School.
In his free time, Walter played basketball and snowmobiled with his friends and enjoyed boating and waterskiing on the Chain of Lakes. He loved to travel, especially in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Europe, and was looking forward to a couple upcoming trips. Walter was also a great dancer.
In addition to having his own pets, Walter was known to rescue and nurture stray pets and wildlife. He researched marine animals and set up and maintained his own, 150 gallon, salt-water tank.
Walter is survived by his beloved parents, Walter J. and Ann Korpan; loving sister, Katie (Jerad) Korpan-Riddle D.V.M.; nephew, Charlie Riddle; and was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Walter H. and Anna Korpan; maternal grandparents, Lorraine and Ralph Nielsen and Andrew Lull; uncle, Andrew Korpan; and cousin, Michael Korpan.
Visitation Wednesday, February 1, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m., at The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 Bull Valley, Rd., McHenry. A luncheon will follow the Mass. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Walter’s name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (McHenry County Chapter), or an animal rescue or charity of your choice, appreciated.
