Walter James Zielinski, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home, May 22, 2022. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilee (nee Laird); and was the cherished father of Debbie (Scott) Sienko, Carrie Zielinski (Cheryl Luick), and Susan (Kevin) Wiggen; the adoring grandfather of Jacob and Kelly Sienko and Calvin and Cassidy Wiggen; dear brother of Stanley (Pat) Zielinski; and fond uncle of Christine (Pete) Einoris. He was preceded in death by nephews, Kevin and Michael Zielinski. Walter worked for Quaker Oats Company as a research scientist for 31 years and, in this time, invented the Chewy Granola Bar. He belonged to the American Orchid Society and was an avid gardener. One of his most memorable accomplishments was being president of the District 37 school board for 13 years. In his leisure time, Walter enjoyed boating, gardening, and driving around in his blue, 1985 Corvette. With his funny sense of humor, he was always looking for an audience. Visitation Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Burial will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Volo. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Diabetes Association, appreciated.
