Walter “Wally” Dobson, 82, of Fox Lake, passed away peacefully at home Friday, April 10, 2020, with his family and friend surrounding him. He was born in Chicago, October 25, 1937, to the late Walter and Jennet (nee Faulhaber) Dobson.
Wally and Carmella (wife) had 62 wonderful, adventurous, and loving years together in marriage. They renewed their wedding vows on their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. They also raised two sons, who also love life, adventure, and the great outdoors.
Wally had a successful 54-year career as a stationary building engineer, and was a loyal member of Local 399 for almost 55 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Chief Engineers Association for over 45 years. He retired in April 2014, as Chief Building Engineer at Citicorp Plaza, Chicago.
In his free time, Wally enjoyed being with his family, classic country music, and wearing his cowboy hat, boots, and buckle. He was an active sportsman, who enjoyed hunting, shooting, snowmobiling, ATVing, and off roading in Wisconsin, Michigan, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. He also loved hunting with family and friends at a special farm in Apple River, Illinois, where he loved spending time sitting in his favorite deer stand, watching for trophy whitetail bucks.
He enjoyed the love of cars and trucks, and telling stories about all of his past adventures to his friends. These stories kept you coming back for more of his adventures.
He enjoyed driving around town in his black Ford F-150, wearing his cowboy hat and boots, and waving to everyone in town that he knew. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Bede Church in Ingleside, and was a proud member of McHenry Moose Lodge 691 in McHenry.
Survivors include his loving family: wife, Carmella (nee Grimaldi); son Michael C. (Deborah J. Schroeder Dobson) and Ricky (Debbie) Dobson; grandson, Michael E.
