For the short amount of time that Nick was a member of the fraternity Phi Delta Theta - Iowa Beta at The University of Iowa I like to think that I got to know Nick fairly well. While we were both active members of Phi Delta Theta fraternity I was granted the opportunity to become his "son". With the idea that he was to be my "father" and mentor me to become a greater member of our fraternity. Nick not only mentored me within the fraternity but outside of it as well. He helped me on the life-long journey every boy takes to become a man. While we were at the University of Iowa and away from our families he truly was like a second father to me. We spent time together studying in the library, working out in the rec center, going to concerts and having the occasional beer just to catch up with one another.
Nick may have not realized it, but to me he was more then just a friend, but a mentor and life coach as well.
I send my deepest condolences to Nicholas's family and to all those who grief at the loss of a truly great young man.

I recently received the sad news, I met Nick many years ago when he was still very young, and as is the case sometimes with cousins you sometimes lose track. I was very sorry to hear of his passing and realize how tough this must be on the family and friends.
There is little I can say to bring comfort at such a moment other than my heart goes out to all concerned.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Nick once. We had a fun filled morning cooking pancakes and eggs at Gary and Pam's Muskegon residence. Nick and three of his friends had been camping nearby and spent one night with us on their way back to the Chicago area. I found Nick to be loving, sweet and charming. He had a great sense of humor. I am grateful for his visit. I send my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to Gary, Sue and Gwen. Prayers for all of you. I hope you find some comfort in your family memories and our Lord's promise of eternal life. We shall all meet again in heaven someday.
